Racing
Salcombe is a stunning sailing destination, renowned for its dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and unspoilt creeks. Families and friends can enjoy the racing as a thrilling spectator sport, whether from the splendid vantage point of the Yacht Club terrace—with commanding views of the start and finish lines—or from the beautiful sandy beaches along the East Portlemouth shore.
The Ria estuary, stretching from Kingsbridge to Salcombe and out to sea, offers some of the finest dinghy sailing in the United Kingdom. With conditions suitable for everyone from beginners to experts, it provides exceptional opportunities for learning, variety, and highly competitive racing.
Visiting yachts receive a warm welcome from The Salcombe Harbour Authority, and all sailors are invited to make use of the excellent facilities at Salcombe Yacht Club. These include hot showers, a welcoming bar serving drinks and food, and outstanding views across the estuary.
Club Racing
Salcombe Yacht Club offers high-quality racing alongside an active programme that encourages and develops younger members through cadet training. The Solo, Merlin Rocket, Laser, Salcombe Yawl, and Cruiser fleets form the backbone of club racing. The Solo and Yawl fleets enjoy their own class starts, while all other boats compete within the Handicap fleets.
Where availability allows, club members boats may be allocated parking spaces at the Batson Boat Park, the Batson Tank Dinghy Park, or the Watch House.
